Labeling And The Pull To Belong
There are people sacrificing to be part of the group because the pull to belong is deep. But is the desire to fit in worth your sovereignty?
Everyone is talking, whispering, wondering
Lately, there’s been quiet talk of seven groups forming on a certain social media platform. Some believe it’s an experiment, an algorithmic mystery, and others say it’s fate. The truth is, no one knows what it’s really about, yet there is a pull to belong. A deep desire to get the label, even if there are no instructions, no rules, and no codes.
The labeling isn’t anything new; however, there are new titles and groups, each omitting the real characteristics to describe what we are walking into. Over the past several years, I have seen an increase in people expressing a desire to be part of “something,” as if it confirms our existence. An open way to show ourselves, to show others we matter.
Life isn’t easy, feeling like we blend in so well, like cement between the bricks, yet we can still be stuck against the wall. Often, the acceptance is given without understanding everything behind it, meaning who we are and how we present ourselves to others.
But the truth is that belonging to get a label isn’t sovereignty. It’s a comfort point when we feel we fit in. Let’s face it, for most of us, fitting in can mean we give something of ourselves up, and there lies the problem. We become the new title, the new label, and often lose our identity.
We are meant to connect with others, and after life deals us continuous hands in a deck of unwinable cards, we give and conform. We trade the pulse of living our best life for the safety of being accepted, being defined by this new group.
The mystery isn’t in the groups; it’s in how easily we accept being sorted and contorting ourselves to what is now expected. The idea of being alone can convince us to settle, to accept without question. If we look more closely, we can see that this pull to belong has increased, particularly over the past several years.
“True sovereignty belongs to all of your traits, not just one label.”
Family members choose the ones who caused the problems for years, so that they have a lot of people around them. Coworkers giving up their private time to attend a party at their work friend’s house, and they really don’t like them.
To follow our soul’s path, we must know ourselves, and the idea of placing one label doesn’t do justice to us. To proudly announce out loud, I choose myself and all the parts that make me special.
Have you ever seen someone special - a film star, talk show host, or an important person who is viewed in one way? They are the entertainer or comedians who make everyone laugh. Then one day, this funny person stands up with a microphone and sings. A moving moment that brings a smile to your face, tears to your eyes, and leaves a state of awe to impress you forever.
So many of us have more talent, creativity, and intelligence than we ever get to share or be valued for because we want to blend in and accept the label.
Real soul growth begins when we no longer feel the need to fit into the group or wear a label on our jacket. There is no need because we are multiple beings in a multiverse.
Is it worth it to sacrifice your sovereignty to fit in?
Expand yourself and go beyond to discover the hidden treasures within you. The perfect infusing elements that make you so special. When you do, you will see much more than one title or one label. You will see yourself.
